Oklahoma bankruptcies increase:
Oklahoma bankruptcy filings rose 39 percent for the month of March over the same period in 2008, close to the 41-percent increase reported nationwide for consumer bankruptcies by the American Bankruptcy Institute.

The numbers involved are somewhat staggering, so sometimes it is easier not to think how many zeros there are in a trillion dollars. American consumer non-mortgage debt is about 2.6 trillion dollars of which nearly 1 trillion is credit card debt.

Alabama’s low median income, high credit card debt and the national recession combined to rank the state fourth highest per capita on the list of U.S. bankruptcy filings in 2008.

Bankruptcies in North West Indiana increase 33% year on year:
Northwest Indiana’s personal bankruptcy filings spiked in 2008 as Chapter 7 filings grew 33 percent compared to a year earlier, and Chapter 13 filings were up 12 percent.
